Our lecturer has asked us to watch some of the movie that we are doing in Teaching the Language of Drama. It is a good thing to watch as I could have the view of the real situation, setting, and the language and also the way the play is being transformed into a movie. To me the differences between a movie and a play is that we could have a better understanding of the story in movie due to the insertion of the real setting and situation where people would get a better way in criticizing and viewing rather than in a play where the audience need to actually imagine the situation and setting. This would rather be difficult for those who are not familiar with the setting of place and time of that era. It would rather make the audience become confuse and could leads to misunderstanding.
Although that I said it is a good thing to watch the real scenario in the movie, I don’t actually really into the movie as its setting is lame and old. The movie is very legging and rather boring. Before this I’ve watched the movie of Mcbeth and now I am seeing another rather new version of Mcbeth and to me this one is way better than the one that I had watch before. By this I have a better understanding and a good view of the movie. This is what good about movie viewing where you could learn something good from there. I hope my friends too have a good time and take in some input out from the movie viewing.

Reading and watching are totally different things!! I do agree when you said that we can make our understanding better if we watch the play after we read the play. But then I feel hesitate to totally agree with you because as I watched adaptation movies from several plays especially 'Streetcar Named Desire', I still blur about the play.
ReplyDeleteThe actual thing or intentional message that the writer want to convey might not be fulfill by the director of the movie as they only think of getting more money from the movie. It might come out as a failure or bad product even the writer would not want to say a word about it.
I want to share my experience after watching a movie entitle 'Dragon Ball' adapted from a famous book. It was totally disaster because the storyline is obviously different from the book that I have read as a kid long time ago. Because of that, I totally disagree with the thing that you have said earlier but I do accept your opinion because people got so many ideas and they are merely different. Sorry pal :)
Don't you think that this course is different from any other courses? We get to watch movies in class!
ReplyDeleteThe movies are beneficial, an extra input for everyone of us. Sometimes, there are parts that we missed when we read, so the movie will highlight to us those parts.
When I read "Streetcar named Desire",I could not picture the the setting of time and place very well. Little that I imagine that Stanley and Stella's house was in such condition. When I read, I did think that Stanley raped Blanche. The language in the book made it sound so gentle. The scene in the movie tells me that it was the turning point for Blanche as she really became mad as a result of Stanley's action.
So i think the movie sessions were good, it's 1+1 (lecture + movie) I'm sure other students would also love to have movie sessions in their course.
