Yesterday, one of the most admired writers came for a talk with us. I really like him as he really does what he think should be done and does not concern or restrict in his writings towards the surrounding or the measures. All that he does is write in what he believes and only speak the truth in his wisdom. I really like the way that he point out certain things that been happening around us that some of us or let just say most of us do not pay attention to. If this kind of thinking is being implemented in each of Malaysian: positive thinking and reflective thinking, Malaysia or even the world would be a better place to breathe in.
The person that we are talking about is no one other than Kee Thuan Chye himself. He retells a lot of stories about us human and specifically us Malaysian. I really like the fact that he write about us where it actually helps people to open their mind and look at things in a different perspective. I really hope that Malaysian are an open-minded society and rather professional in rating and acceptance towards knowledge. This is because his writing can be considered as knowledge as it reflects on the society where society could learn the reality of ways of life they had been living with. I don’t know why some of us are so confused and reluctant to accept the fact that they are not perfect and cannot accept when other people point out what have they done wrong in life. They actually should be wiser in terms of being more careful and reflective in everything that they are going to attempt. They should look at the important points and from there improvise as you could be a better human.
During the session with Kee Thuan Chye, he tells us his history a bit on how did he struggle to get what he achieved today. He loves to write and he said that he had started to write since from the very beginning of his life, I mean when he entered school and learn how to write. He graduated from USM and then applied for a job there as temporarily worker, and he worked there until some conflict occurred and he was being kicked out. He continued his dreams by applying and accepted by National Echo. When the company went straight to hell, he ends up working with NST in KL around 1979. After that he discussed with us on the play that we are working at which is The Swordfish then The Concubine, the improvised version. He actually has changed the story (improvised again) and be looking at some rather important aspects and more of going detailed into the core of the story. I can’t wait to look for the latest version as I want to know what kind of improvement that he had on the play this time. From his experienced looking at people and dealing with all sorts of conflict, he had come out with plays that share his opinion and his authenticity with the public. I would love to see his master piece being staged here in Malaysia. You see how narrow minded our people is? They do not accept the reality of their own characteristics, their true traits. Every time when they are movie, books or even pictures that represents the truth about the society, they disapproved it. Why is this happening in Malaysia?
All his works are about what we have achieved up to this moment. What kind of improvements or failures that we have developed along the way. In Malaysia, how close we have come to become Malaysian? Or how close we are to be called as united? I know that we should not be saying this but to those who read this, before you judge anything, I would like you to rejuvenate your mind with these questions: Do you believe that we are truly united as in a Malaysian? In all the crisis and conflicts that had been happening lately, does that show we are united? Are the Malay even united?
This is what I have been saying in certain blogs that I’ve entertain few months ago when there were things about us being united and about the Malay is trying to defend their rights. Where have their morals and values gone to? Shouldn’t they be the one who is responsible for their own actions? Come on, we are educated people, we should be acting like one and start to think about the people/ society that we crowd. As I always point out in any of my comments, if the Malay among themselves have a lot of crisis, issues, fighting and despise of each other, can we (all races in Malaysia) be united as in the Malay itself are scattered all over the place? Think and improvise people. May we lead a better future, and better way of thinking!!!
